29 Year-Old Man Nabbed For Stealing Nigeria Immigration Property In Lagos

29-year-old man, Mohammed Yusuf, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for stealing the property of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The accused, whose residential address was given as No. 5 Akinshola Street, Ibafo, Ogun State, is facing one count of stealing.

It was gathered that the suspect gained access to the premises of the Passport Office of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Alausa, Ikeja, by scaling the fence.

The Sokoto State indigene reportedly stole one of the flat-screen plasma televisions in the premises.

It was learnt that the suspect was apprehended while he was trying to steal phones of the officers on duty.

The police prosecutor, Abiola Adewale, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 21, 2018, around 2.30am.

He said, “On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, around 2.30am, the suspect burgled the Nigeria Immigration Service premises through the back fence that led to the canteen.

“He removed the television set and positioned it to be taken away with the intent to steal. He later moved towards the officers on duty and while trying to steal their phones, he was apprehended.”

Adewale said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read in part, “That you, Mohammed Yusuf, on November 21, 2018, around 2.30am at the Nigeria Immigration Service, Passport Office, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal a flat screen television valued at N120,000, property of the Nigeria Immigration Service.”

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr W. A. Salami, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Salami said the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

He adjourned the case till December 18, 2018.
