Ado-Odo/Ota APC Youths Protests Amosun’s Consensus Arrangement, Demands Direct Primaries For Aspirants

All Progressives Congress Youths in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government on Sunday staged a peaceful protest against the consensus arrangement of Governor Ibikunle Amosun ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.

The youths, who mobilized themselves across different wards from Ota, Ado, Atan, Iju, Ilogbo and Igbesa under the auspices of APC Concerned Movement in the Local Government, expressed their displeasure on what they termed as “Marginalization of the Goose that lays the Golden Egg” in that Ado-Odo/Ota which has the highest voting strength and also the highest Internally generated revenue in the State was marginalized in the recently concluded consensus arrangement which zoned the Governorship and at the same time Senatorial slots to Yewa without taking into considerations, the plight of the Aworis.

The leader of the group, Ganiu Jelili from Iju Ota ward, while speaking on behalf of the group expressed their displeasure in the political arrangement of Governor Ibikunle Amosun; having favoured Yewa in Ogun West and leaving Awori out of the equation. “We came here to inform you our leaders that we are not pleased with the consensus arrangement of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

We collectively fought for the course of Yewa/Awori for Governor and now that our Governor has yielded our call, we are now demanding that there should be fair sharing. Since Yewa already walked away with the Governorship slot, we the Aworis too should have the Senatorial ticket. It has been like this since inception. During the time of former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Yewa took the Governorship ticket while Awori got the Senatorial ticket; same goes for Social Democratic Party in 2015 election. Senator Akin Odunsi got the party’s governorship ticket while a Yewa man went home with the Senatorial slot. So, we are demanding that our leaders do that which is right and return the Senatorial ticket to Awori in the overall interest of our great party and for fair sharing”.

One of the party leaders who was favoured in the consensus arrangement of Governor Amosun, Com. Rotimi Rahmon (Arugbo), while addressing the agitated youths called for calm as the demand of the youths was not out of place but caution needed be taken so that there would be sustainability of peace which the party has enjoyed, most especially, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government. He added that the Local Government has enjoyed a fair share of the political arrangement in time past and that the Senatorial district comprised of both Yewa, Awori, Eeguns, Anagos and other tribes who also has equal rights to the claims of the Youths.

Com. Rahman who got the House of Representatives ticket in the consensus arrangement promised the youths and the entire Local Government effective representations which will compensate for the Senatorial slot that the zone did not get.

Also addressing the angry youths, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the State, Hon. Chief Jide Ojuko, implored them to be patient as the Local Government would be adequately compensated for in the cabinet of the next Governor of the state.

He buttressed that other Local Governments had at time past been at the receiving end. He ensured them that he will take their protest letter to the top echelons of the party and that he cannot guarantee them that their demand would be met because the consensus arrangement of Mr. Governor was in the best interest of the senatorial district and Ogun State as a whole.
