A 10 year old wonder kid, Martins Benedicta, of the Local Government primary school II, Otun Ota, has won the 2019 edition of the annual Alhaji R.T. Agemo Academic Excellence competition.
The Agemo Academic Excellence competition, organised for public primary schools in Awori land, had the preliminary rounds of the competition at different zonal areas while the final round held at Ansar ud deen primary school in ota.
VOA news correspondent gathered that, since the establishment of local government primary school II, in 1955, it has been known for academic excellence, they have won many laurels from competitions they have participated in the past and some of its students have won scholarship prizes. The school was the first runner up in the 2018 Agemo academic Excellence competition.
Benedicta, a primary 6 pupil of the school, who had represented and won Prizes for the school in spelling bee, debate and other competitions before the Agemo competion, revealed that she was apprehensive before the competition but the apprehension vanished the moment she was announced the winner of the competition.
she said, “I was scared before the competition, but when i was announced as the winner, i was very happy and i thanked the organisers of the competition.”
Benedicta’s class teacher, Miss Kazeem A.O commented on the brilliance of Benedicta, she described her as a very brilliant, calm and curious student, who learns very fast.
She stressed that she sees her excelling in her chosen career in the next ten years because of her brilliance and curiosity to learn.
However, Benedicta, in an exclusive interview with the VOA, called on the government to improve on the sporting facilities in the school.
She said, “my school has good teachers that teach well, i will love it if the government can improve on the sporting facilities in the school, the boys have where they play football, but we the girls only run around during break time”.
