In a bid to help the Police curb social vices, crime that comes as a result of boom in population and give adequate protection to lives and properties, the Atan Area Community Development Committee (ACDC), on Thursday, gifted the Nigerian Police Force, a newly constructed ultramodern building to serve as the Police Divisional Headquarters within Atan, Ota area.
The newly constructed building, which was commissioned by the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bashir Makama is to properly accommodate men of the Nigerian Police Force who had been operating at a police post closed to Atan, Ota main market before now.
While delivering his speech, CP Bashir Makama heartedly appreciated the members of the community and emphasized that the act of policing in a community should not be left to Police officers alone. He therefore called on the DPO to liaise with stakeholders in the community in order to ensure adequate security in the area.
“I want to thank the Atan community for supporting us to serve them better. Policing in any community can not be right without involving the members of that community. The community should also be ready to support the securities so as to have an absolute result.”
He further stated that policing has developed to an ultimate scope; whereby the community could compile and give information silently in a police information box.
“For you to know that police is not relenting, we have provided an information platform with the use of a box whereby anybody can secretively drop written information useful for the police. Only the PCRC Chairman would have the key to the box.”
The Olota of Ota, HRM Prof. Abdulkabir Obalanlege, while delivering his speech, said that Atan, Ota would witness ‘universal development’ as a result of the project commissioned today. He humbly stood up to address the audience, stating that he could not hide the respect and loads of joy he had for the community who deemed it fit to initiate the project without government’s intervention.
In an interview with VOA News correspondent, the Olota of Ota, HRM (Prof.) Adeyemi Obalanlege, urged the Police to work faithfully with the community towards ensuring that Ota and its suburbs becomes a safe haven for all and sundry.
In a separate interview with the PCRC National Vice Chairman, Alh. Olaniyan Ibrahim, he said, “this particular project commissioned by the Atan community today is a purely community project and has accrued to the fact that the security of a country should not be left in the hands of the government alone.”
One of the community elders in Atan, Pastor Ayeni explained that Atan has been an unstable town since the 1980’s. “Atan has before now been an unstable town, the arrival of the Chairman, ACDC, Atan-Ota, Comrade Olalekan Abatan led to the initiation of this project. The project commenced on Sep. 15, 2015 when the Baala Banjoko Family volunteered this land for the commencement of the project. I appreciate God for allowing us witness its commissioning.”
He further advised, that the community should love one another and permit unity to dwell in their midst.
