Residents of Ejigbo in Ejigbo LCDA Area of Lagos today staged a protest against what they termed impunity on the part of Ojon of Ijan and Ejigbo, HRM Oba Moruf Adekunle Ojoola over handling of Ejigbo Market.
The protesters whom were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions, some of which reads: “Take your hands off Ejigbo market“, “Is the monarch powerful than the Government?”, “We dey enjoy him govt, let him work“, “Support your brother to achieve“, and so on.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, a renowned international Artiste, Jelili Atiku who is the President of Ejigbo Indigene Forum and also Chairman, Board of Trustee, Ejigbo Unity Forum demanded to know who sold the 42 plots of lands initially meant to house Ejigbo market. He added that they want Ejigbo LCDA to take total control of the market from Oba Moruf Ojoola.
While addressing the protesters, the Vice Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA said that their demands would be met. He assured the protesters that the Chairman will see to their demands. He however, advised the protesters not to turn the peaceful demonstrations into a violent one.
VOA news gathered that HRM Oba Moruf Ojoola has been eating the proceed of the market which land was marked out by Ifoshi family years before he became a king, but the Local Government Development Area now demands to take control of the market. It was also learnt that the officials sent by the LCDA were assaulted by one of the palace Chiefs of Ojon of Ijan and Ejigbo. The Chief allegedly pounced on the LCDA Chairman in the presence of Ejigbo DPO. It took the intervention of the Police for the Chairman not to be beaten.
