Covid-19: Olota In Council Takes Sensitization Campaign To The Streets, Enlightens Residents On The Risk Of Contracting Virus

The Olota in council, under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Oba Professor Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege has today taken anti-covid-19 campaign to the streets of Ota in a bid to further sensitize residents on the risks involved in contracting the dreaded virus as case in Ado-Odo/Ota local government hits 139.

Recall that covid-19 case has hit 139 in Ado-Odo/Ota local government, which is the highest in Ogun state and one of the local government with highest cases in Nigeria. In a bid to dwindle the risk of contracting the virus, the Olota in council toured all the nooks and crannies of Ota to enlighten residents on the need to ensure safety precautions as stipulated by Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Speaking to VOA News correspondent shortly after the brief exercise, the Ekerin of Ota, High Chief Bamgboye Osunlabu, on behalf of Olota in council, said the move was necessary in order assist the NCDC and Ogun state government in sensitizing the general populace on taking adequate measures to combat the dreaded virus. He said that ‘most Nigerians shares the erroneous belief that there are no cases of covid-19 and that the government is not sincere with Nigerians about covid-19 figures and management. Meanwhile, Ota, because of its closeness to Lagos and its population size, has the highest case of the pandemic in Ogun state; owning to share negligence on the part of the people.

The Ajana of Ota, HRH Oba Clement Olusegun Akinyemi, in a chat with VOA News correspondent, urged Ota residents to trust the judgment of the government in keeping social distance, using their nose masks and staying indoor, if necessary, as Ota residents stands at risk of contracting the virus because of its huge population.

The Seriki of Ota, High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun and Lisa of Ota, High Chief Dayo Akindele Eleku, charged traders at Oba T.T Dada market to adhere strictly to the rules and guidelines given by the NCDC as most of the traders were captured throwing social distancing rule to the bins during the sensitization trail of the Olota in council got to the market.

In a similar twist, the Onikotun of Otun, Ota, HRH Oba AdulAkeem Odunaro, advised some motorcyclists and passengers when the trail got to Osi round about, Ota to make use of their safety equipment and convey passengers as stipulated by the state’s government.

VOA News gathered that most residents has lost faith in the anticovid-19 campaign as some of them debunked the information given about the high case of covid-19 in Ota by the Olota in council. Some were heard as saying, ‘there is no coronavirus’, ‘the government is lying’, ‘show us coronavirus patients’, among other ‘yarns’. Some of the residents went as far as following the trail and throwing all sorts of unprintable insults.

Other members of Olota in council who joined the sensitization trail included; Oluwo of Ota, High Chief Oyedele Dehinde, the Aro of Ota, High Chief Ezekiel Bamishaye Fadipe, the Personal Assistant to the Olota of Ota, Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, and other palace staff.
