Family Elects Oduaa People’s Union General Secretary, Prince Lanre Sunmonu-Agbebi As The Next Oniju Of Iju Ogundimu, To Succeed Late Oba Elijah Olanire

The family of Ilupokiki in Ota has elected the General Secretary of Oodua People’s Union, Prince Olanrewaju Tajudeen Adio Sunmonu-Agbebi as the next Oniju of Iju Ogundimu in Lagos State.

The election took place on Saturday, 29th of September, 2018 at the family compound in Osi quarter, Ota with family members, friends, newsmen and well wishers in attendance.

The Oba elect, Prince Lanre Sunmonu, a Master’s degree holder in Marketing Management and a certificate holder in information technology was unanimously elected by members of the Ilupokiki Ruling house.

While addressing family members at the event, the General Secretary of Ogundimu Omolomo Royal family said that the need to elect a successor to fill the vacant stool of the Oniju of Iju Ogundimu was necessitated by the letter received from the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs in Lagos State to elect a successor to fill the vacant stool of Oniju of Iju Ogundimu as the next ruling house in succession after the demise of HRH late Oba Elijah Ebelamu Olanire; who died about 3 months ago.

While speaking with VOA News correspondent, the Oba elect, Prince Lanre Sunmonu said that the reason the family elected him to fill the vacant stool was because they know his capabilities and owning to the experience he has gathered over the years. He promised to use his connections and experience to fast track progress and development to Iju land. He further added that he would work to ensure that there is peace and tranquility in Iju and among all Aworis; both in Ogun and Lagos States.

On whether he would be on ground as per the administration of Iju Ogundimu because of his travel schedules, the Oba elect said that he has no other address apart from Iju Ogundimu.

The Oba elect, Prince Adio Olanrewaju Sunmonu, when crowned, would be the 5th Oniju of Iju Ogundimu, Lagos State after the last Oba joined his ancestors on 10th of February, 2018 after reigning for 11 years.
