“He Is The Most Experienced Amongst All The Chiefs In Ota, He Is Without Blemish”, Olota, Onitetiku Speaks At Ekerin Of Ota’s 80th Birthday Celebration
Hundreds of people trooped in to celebrate the Pearl jubilee of High Chief Bamigboye Akanni Osunlabu, the Ekerin of Ota on Sunday, 11th of November, 2018 at the Cathedral Church of St. James, Ipate-Oyinbo, Ota, Ogun State.
High Chief Osunlabu, who is presently the Chairman, Yoruba council of Elders, Ogun West chapter was born into the family of late High Chief Joseph Osunlabu, the first Ekerin of Ota, he is a devoted Christian who learnt the act of community leadership from the then Olota of Ota, late Oba T.T Dada as the fourth Ekerin of Ota in 1992 and later rose up to be the secretary of Olota in council. High Chief Osunlabu was the Chairman, Ota Regency Council that elected and installed the new Olota of Ota, His Esteemed Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege due to his wealth of knowledge and experience which he has accrued over the years.
While giving the sermon during Ekerin’s thanksgiving service, The Rt. Rev’d Dr. J. Akinwamide Atere, The Lod Bishop, Diocese of Awori eulogized Ekerin for being a fatherly figure in the church and society without letting his duties as a traditional Chief affects his roles as an important figure in the church. He added that Ekerin was instrumental to the establishment of Lady chapel of the cathedral and as such, he would never be forgotten. He advised him to hold on to what he believes in till his time lapses on earth.
The Olota of Ota, in an interview with VOA News correspondent, described Ekerin as a righteous and upright man who doesn’t compromise.
He added that Ota is blessed to have someone like Ekerin in the town because he is a connector between the past and the present in Ota.
In his own words, the Onitetiku Owode, Ota, HRM Oba Abdulwasiu Ogungbayi said that Ekerin is without blemish. Adding that though a lot of people might not like him for holding on to what he believes, but that is the best practice a man should do.
The Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government and also a birthday celebrant, High Chief Oladele Adeniji (Odota of Ota) in a chat with VOA News correspondent, described Ekerin as an upstanding, right-minded, principled, and irreproachable elder states man who has spent most of his lives serving the community.
He urged the indigenes of Ota to tap the experience inherent in Ekerin as it would be an irretrievable loss if he departs from them with his archive of experience without them tapping into it.
Those that also trooped in to celebrate with the Ekerin included; Senator Gbolahan Dada, Senator representing Ogun West at the upper chamber, Chief Seun Ojo Akinbiyi, SAN, Chief Muhammad Olagbaye, former Lagos State Commissioner of Finance, Architect Osifeso, Ajana of Ijana, HRH Oba Clement Olusegun Akinyemi, Akogun of Oruba, HRH Oba Wadud Akanni Dehinde, Onikotun of Otun, Ota, HRH Oba Akeem Odunaro among several others.
