One Oyeyemi Elizabeth has been brought before an Ota Magistrate Court on Tuesday on a count charge of assault.
The charge reads, “the defendant allegedly poured hot water on the wife of her landlord simply identified as ‘Iya Chioma’ during a heated argument that ensued between them at their residence”.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, owning that the complainant was fond of picking quarrels with her and on that particular day, she was cooking when the quarrel started and it resulted in a fisticuffs, the development which made her pour the hot water she put on fire on her in self defense.
VOA News correspondent gathered that the defendant is a concubine to the husband of the complainant. The husband allegedly brought Oyeyemi Elizabeth into their house and gave her an apartment to be living so that it will appear as if she is a tenant. On finding out the truth, the complainant confronted her on several occasions but the husband always side the her.
The sad event which led to Oyeyemi Elizabeth pouring hot water on Iya Chioma and thereby bleaching her skin happened one night when an argument ensued as it used to and Elizabeth allegedly went to put water on fire and then pour it on Iya Chioma.
The case was first reported at the Ori-Okuta Police post before it was later transferred to the Onipanu Police Division.
The complainant, Elizabeth was however absent during the court case on Tuesday. When our correspondent contacted her, she said she was not aware of any court case holding that day.
