Just In: Lotto Operators Agree Payment Of Development Levy To Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government

Lotto operators have agreed to the payment of N100 daily development levy initiated by the council to assist in the smooth implementation of policies within Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of Ogun state.

This agreement was reached during a stakeholders meeting held with the local government officials to harmonize the impasse between levy consultant, Worthford Nigeria Ltd, hired by to collect daily levy by the council and lotto vendors who had earlier kicked against the policy.

The Director General Services and Administration, Mr. Solomon Dada, who presided over the meeting on behalf of the council Boss, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu, while addressing representatives from Premier lotto (Baba Ijebu), Western lotto, and Betking, said that there was need for the stakeholders meeting owning to the feedback from the local government’s levy consultants that point of sales operatives of lotto agencies in the local government have not been paying the N100 daily fee initiated for the smooth running of the council.

He further explained that the daily levy will assist the local government in executing some of its policies, viz; cleaning of the community, ensuring security of lives and properties, among others.

“It is imperative for your operators to pay the daily levy for the smooth running of this local government. The fact that the head offices of the lotto companies pay their tax to the federal or state government, does not guarantee that their operators will not pay the local government levy. It is this levy that the council use to clean the environment on daily basis, ensure there is security of lives and properties, and also ensuring we attend to some urgent pressing demands of the council”. Mr. Solomon Dada said.

In their response, Mr. Kayode Ewebajo, who is a representative of Premier lotto (Baba Ijebu) said his company was ready to do the biddings of the local government and that their agents would forthwith, comply with the levy consultant. He pleaded that the council should indulge them while they discuss the new policy at the management level. Mr. Kayode assured that his company will cooperate with the local government thereafter.

“I want to authoritatively inform you that Baba Ijebu has and will always cooperate with the local government. But we are pleading for just a little time to discuss this at our management meeting with the full assurance that our vendors will pay the levy”.

Representative of Western lotto, Bankole Davies told the local government that his vendors have started complying with the new directive. He assured that his company will always pay the revenue and they will need to enlighten the vendor operators more to ease co-operation with the local government.

Lawrence Francis, who represented Betking at the meeting also assured his company’s commitment to cooperate with the local government.

VOA News gathered that bet operations is on the rise in Ado-Odo/Ota local government. It has also formed part of most men and women’s lifestyle as an alternative way of making ends meet.
