Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria has on Tuesday, changed its guard.
The event, which was tagged, ‘2020 ordinary congress election’ was held at the Community department hall of Ado-Odo/Ota local government and had Comrade Ojeleye Ebenezer Oluwaseun, from Ado-Odo/Igbesa constituency becoming the newly elected local government Coordinator.
Speaking at the congress, the Transition committee Chairman of the local government, Hon. Lawal Wasiu, FCA who was a Special guest, expressed his satisfaction at the conduct of the event. He said that youths are integral part of Nation’s building and as such deserved effective representation.
“The youths are one of the major stakeholders in Nation’s building, hence why its leadership should be above board. The government of Prince Dapo Abiodun is committed to making sure that youths are effectively represented in his cabinet”.
He assured of his administration’s continued support for the newly elected officers.
The State Chairman, Comrade Abduljabal Aiyelagbe, while speaking with VOA News correspondent, described the conduct of the election as ‘peaceful’.
He said the youth representatives of Ado-Odo/Ota followed all the laid down rules and regulations for electing new executives as enshrined in 2012 constitution of the National Youths Council of Nigeria, as amended.
While congratulating the newly elected executives, he reminded them of the tasks ahead, one of which is bringing together all the youth organization of the local government, and making sure that their voices are heard in the local government and beyond.
He said that youths have roles to play in Nations building and that they are the cornerstone of any development in the society. He advised government to ensure more youths participation in its efforts in delivering good governance.
The newly elected Coordinator, Comrade Ojeleye Ebenezer Oluwaseun, while speaking with VOA News correspondent, said his constituency, Ado-Odo/Igbesa had not been represented since the emergence of National Youth Council of Nigeria in the local government and that he would be first representative from the constituency.
He reiterated that Ado-Odo/Ota is a local government of distinction and that himself and his executives would make sure that they bring out the quality in all the matters that affects the youths.
Com. Ojeleye expressed dissatisfaction in the age bracket of political office holders which affects youth from contesting elective position. He however, assured that youths were doing everything within the ambit of the law to ensure that age bracket do not limit their chances of contesting for political offices during 2023 general elections.
The congress was well attended by youth groups and some relevant stakeholders in the local government.
Other executives elected included; Comrade Femi Olayemi as the Deputy Coordinator, Afeez Nasir as Secretary General, Akintola Segun, Assistant General Secretary, Adebiyi Afolabi as Financial Secretary, Odunayo Folarin as Social Secretary, Babalase Kowiu as Publicity Secretary 1, Wale Odu, Publicity Secretary 2, Ogun Oluwaseyi as Auditor and Comrade Femi Adeniran as Legal Adviser
