“Ogun 2019: Yewa/Awori Should Brace Up To Take The Baton From Gov. Ibikunle Amosun”, HRH Oba Joel Fashina, Onikooko Of Kooko, Ota
The Onikooko of Kooko Ebiye, Ota, HRH Oba Joel Oluwasegun Fashina was the guest on the Awori kitigbe segment of Igba-Owuro, a two hour radio program anchored by Olulana Mayowa where he said the history of Kooko Ebiye is dated back to over 10, 000 years.
Oba Fashina said their progenitors; Oyetoro, Oyegun and Isiotan came all the way from Ile-Ife and temporarily settled at Ilogbo Ashowo. Soon, they consulted an Oracle which advised them to relocate from their temporary abode to a more comfortable place. According to Oba Joel Fashina, “Their progenitors were directed to look for a Cock and cover it for a period of seven days alongside some other ritual rites. If the Cock crows after the seven days, that means they have gotten to their final abode, but if otherwise, they would still relocate. After the seven days, they were all agog to discover that the Cock crowed. In an excited announcement, ‘Akuko-ko’, meaning, ‘the Cock crowed’. Therefore, they all settled at Kooko till date.
On how many monarchs that have reigned since the inception of Kooko, Oba Fashina said he is the second Onikooko of Kooko and he succeeded his late father, late Oba Simeon Ayinde who was upgraded to the position of Oba in 1992. He emphasized that Kooko is just a few minutes trek from Atan, Ota which borders Ilogbo, Ilobi, Owode Agbado, and Atan, Ota.
The Oba lamented that there is only one public Primary School in Kooko which is African primary School, Kooko and it has unfairly lost its only public Secondary School which used to be
Commercial Secondary School, kooko Atan, but sadly, the name has now been changed to Commercial Secondary School, Atan. Citing that it was Kooko that allocated a piece of land for the construction of the School and his late father was instrumental in facilitating the Electricity and road that enters through Kooko from Atan. He added that he is making frantic but careful efforts in retrieving back the School.
The monarch smartly meander the question put to him on the shenanigans surrounding his enthronement as the authentic Onikooko of Kooko. He said that a gazette has not been made to guide chieftancy rotation in Kooko.
Oba Fashina decried that Yewa/Awori has been denied rights to the Governorship position in Ogun state for so long and opined that it is high time the zone started showing seriousness towards ensuring they get what rightfully belongs to them by 2019 Ogun 2019. He further charged the people of Yewa/Awori to brace in order to take the baton from Gov. Ibikunle Amosun.
