Police Foil Attack By Suspected Cultists And Land Grabbers In Ikogbo, Imoshe

The Nigerian Police Force has on Wednesday, foiled attack by suspected cultists and land grabbers terrorizing Ikogbo and Imoshe area of Ado-Odo/Ota local government in Ogun state over land dispute.

VOA News gathered that suspected cultists and hoodlums in Imoshe had threatened to replicate the same treatment that was handed to Olofin of Ado-Odo, HRM Oba Abdulatif Akanni, who was stripped naked and beaten blue black by some angry mobs over a dispute in Ado-Odo a while ago. The cultists’ reason for wanting to replicate same treatment to one of the monarchs in Ejila Awori, was as a result of ‘oil bunkering’ which was suspectedly going on within the area. Our correspondent gathered.

It was earlier gathered land tussle between Osoja family and one Joel Aina, Chief Akingbade and others in Imoshe, which the former had won in High court and at the Appellate court sitting in Ibadan, triggered the sudden break down of law and order by the later who decided to thwart the appeal court judgement after their stay of execution had been struck out, thereby killing an innocent citizen to indict Osoja family.

Further investigation revealed that Osoja’s family lawyer had written a petition to the Police, asking them to intervene in a threat statement issued by the suspected hoodlums, threatening to publicly humiliate the Onikogbo of Ikogbo, Oba Engr. Nurudeen Osoja and unleash terror on Ikogbo indigene and residents at large. It was later gathered that the suspects refused to appear before the Police after receiving their invitation.

A source, who craved anonymity, told VOA News correspondent that the suspected hoodlums and cultists resisted attempt by Nigerian Police Force to carry out on the spot assessment on the said land after the suspects have failed to honour their invitation by sporadically shooting and attacking the Police officers.

Our source said, “the suspected land grabbers, were in hundreds, wielding dangerous weapons and shooting at Police officers. They shot at the D.O of Police station and four of them were arrested; two male and female respectively. So, in an attempt by the hoodlums to rescue their colleagues after they found out that the arrested suspects were on their way Eleiweran Police headquarters in Abeokuta, they descended on the Police station, destroying buildings and damaging vehicles”.

It was further revealed that the suspected hoodlums shot two members of their gang to distract the land dispute case and also indicting the Osoja family as party to the killing, which they earlier threatened to do.

When contacted to speak on the matter, the Police PRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi has not gotten back to our reporter until the time of filing this report.
