Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three members of a robbery gang in Iju-Ota, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Bamidele Oluwashina, 31; Adebowale Kehinde, 32; and Oluwasegun Abayomi were arrested on Thursday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, said the suspects were arrested following a distress call to the Onipanu divisional police headquarters.

He said the police were called around 9.30pm that robbers had invaded the Tipper motor park and were dispossessing people of their valuables.

According to the PPRO, the Onipanu Divisional Police Officer, CSP Bamidele Job, mobilised a patrol team to the scene and engaged the robbers in a gun duel.

He said, “Having realised the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums took to their heels. But one of them was arrested at the scene.

“The entire area was cordoned off, while the police intensified search for other members of the gang with the help of members of the community. Two other members of the gang were sighted trying to escape in a tricycle and were promptly arrested.”

Oyeyemi added that one Tosin Ajayi, who was cut with a machete in the head by the hoodlums, was taken to a hospital by the police for treatment.

He noted that one cut-to-size locally-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
