Policeman Dies As Burning Building Collapse In Lagos Island

The front section of a six-storey building gutted by fire on Tuesday in Lagos Island collapsed and killed a policeman at the scene.

Our correspondent  reports that part of the six-storey building located at 43 Martins Street, Lagos Island, collapsed around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday as firemen intensified efforts to extinguish the inferno.

Our news men gatheredthat part of the burning building collapsed on the policeman, severely injuring him while he had been controlling the surging crowd.

Discovering the incident, Mr Olanrewaju Elegushi, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Lagos Central Business District, said that the policeman died in hospital following injuries sustained in the building collapse.
