Ibrahim, a suspected member of Eiye cult has on Tuesday been arraigned before an Ota Magistrate court on a three-count charge of breach of public peace, attempted assault and belonging to a secret cult.
The Prosecuting counsel, Inspector E. Itaita read in the charge that the suspect was arrested sometimes in March during a rampage caused by the cult group (Eiye) somewhere around Ota. Upon his apprehension, the suspect brought out a pocket knife to attack the policemen.
The suspect during examination said he is not a member of the mentioned cult group. “I’m not a cultist, on the day that I was arrested I was coming from my shop where I work as a shoemaker, I wanted to go and eat somewhere around the filling station close to my shop.
I had not gotten there when i saw people running towards my direction because I didn’t know what was chasing them I decided to run for my life too. While I was running, I hit my foot against a stone and fell; that was how the policemen were able to arrest me thinking I was one of the cult guys”. He said.
The Magistrate however granted the suspect bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
