Sustenance Of Cultural Norms: Children Competes, Showcases Diverse Traditional Talents In This Year’s Temple Of Orunmila Adulawo’s Children Festival

As it is obtainable in the Christendom and Islam that yearly, parents appreciates God for giving them children who will not only inherit their legacies and properties, but will also replace them long after they had gone as a way of sustaining the teachings and legacies of Jesus Christ. Also, the Ijo Orunmila Adulawo, which was established in 1934 by the and high priest Late Olorunfunmi Adebanjo Oshiga appreciates Olodumare every year for giving them children who will inherit the traditional and cultural norms and beliefs.

VOA Entertainment correspondent was at this year’s children festival at the Ijo Orunmila Adulawo, Ota temple which was tagged “Catch Them Young” where children showcased their talents in various Ifa panegyrics and memory verses.

This year’s  Ijo Orunmila Adulawo’s children festival was in collaboration with the Ancestral Pride Foundation, whose founder is Dr. Oluwo Fasola Faniyi. One of the Ancestral Pride Foundation aims is to promote culture which they achieved by helping to plan the children anniversary.

In a chat with SK Adekunbi, the Aro of Ijo Orunmila Adulawo, Ota on the need for celebrating the children festival, he emphasized that their religion is synonymous to that of Christians going to church  and Muslims going to mosques. He also stated that all traditionalist of different denominations all come together and worship Olodumare through a sent prophet called Orunmila.

He added that the anniversary is a medium to thank Olodumare for giving them children who are to take over from them after they might have gone to the great beyond.

Some of the children who spoke with VOA Entertainment correspondent expressed their gaiety in the festival, in that they also saw the need to come together as traditional worshipers and worship the Olodumare for the gift of lives.

The children thrilled congregation with traditional performances, such as; Sango, Esu,  Obatala, Sango and also had a quiz competition.

Some of the notables who also graced the event included; Eni Owo Julo Ifagbemi Ifajobi, The Olori Oluwo Ijo Orunmila Worldwide, who was the father of the day, Founder, Ancestral Temple Foundation, Oluwo(Dr.) Fasola Faniyi, Dr. Kehinde Akinola, Obasegun Amoo Ewegbemi(Obasegun Of Ado-Odo/ Ota), all members of Ancestral Pride Foundation, among several others.
