The Weeknd, BTS Lead 2021 IHeartRadio Music Awards Winners
The awards season continued on Thursday with the return of the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Hosted by Usher, the ceremony aired live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Last year’s broadcast was canceled due to the pandemic, however, the music awards show returned with a different category — for the first time, there were six contenders up for TikTok Bop of the Year, awarded based on fan votes.
The Weeknd led the iHeartRadio nominees with eight nods and took home three awards, including Song of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, for the most awards of the night tied with BTS. He was followed closely by Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Rich, who received seven nominations each, Vulture.com reports.
The show featured several performances (in front of a real-life, indoor, masked audience!), including The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s debut of their “Save Your Tears” remix, Silk Sonic, Dan + Shay, and Doja Cat (featuring aliens).
Demi Lovato, Brandi Carlie, and H.E.R, also took the stage with a musical tribute for Elton John, who received this year’s iHeartRadio Icon Award.
