“We Will No Longer Condone Criminal Activities In Ikogbo”, Ogun Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama Warns As He Commissions New Police Station

The Ogun state Police commissioner, CP Bashir Makama, on Saturday, commissioned a newly built Police station, donated by Ikogbo, Ejila-Awori community.

The well furnished Police station, which sits comfortably on a 3 plots of land, has 5 rooms, 2 cell rooms, an office for the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), ammunition room, general consultancy room and a spacious environment to accommodate other police activities.

The Onikogbo of Ikogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba (Engr.) Nurudeen Oluwadare Osoja, while handling over the newly constructed building to the Commissioner of Police, said, ‘the community has embarked on a journey to a bright future as a university is being built in the community and will be completed in due course, also, a police station has just been donated to the police and a new Hilux van, which is to be donated by Dr. Prophetess Ngozi Okafor, general overseer of The Truth Visionary Mission INC and Vice Chancellor, proposed Vision University, Ikogbo would be used as an operational vehicle for the police division’.

He Further said that, with the police station on ground, security in Ikogbo will no longer be ‘business as usual’, and that there will be adequate security of lives and properties.

However, he advised parents to warn their criminal minded wards to desist from such activities and that the community will not habour criminals.

He said, “security is a collective responsibility; therefore, i implore you all to report any threat to security around you promptly, for the safety of all”.

The traditional ruler also pleaded to the state government to construct good road to link Ikogbo and its neighbouring communities.

He said, ” I hereby use this medium to plead to the state government on behalf of myself, the good people of Ikogbo Ejila-Awori and our neighbouring communities, to construct good road from Igbesa to Ikogbo captain David road”.

The police commissioner, while opening the newly constructed building, commended the efforts of the community and stated that the police station will improve the security situation in the community and ordered that suspects should not be unjustly detained in the facility.

He added that, anyone detained unlawfully should seek redress in court of law or report directly to the Police division or Area command.

In an interview with VOA News correspondent, the CP revealed that the facility is in line with the objectives of the Ogun state police command, which is geared towards ensuring that crime is abated in the community and Nigeria as a whole.

He added that, the Ogun state police department is working very hard to ensure that criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum in the state.

When quizzed by our correspondent, the Onikogbo of Ikogbo said, ‘the police station is a community effort, he noted that over time, criminal activities have wrecked business activities in the community, hence, there was need to have police station which has just been handed over to the police to reduce crime in the community.

However, the monarch lauded the efforts of the president Muhammad Buhari led administration which has allowed community policing, he added that community policing is very key towards ensuring that security is sustained in Nigeria.

The Head of the Igbo community in Ikogbo, Chief Obi, when Speaking with VOA News correspondent, lauded the effort of the king, he added that the Igbo community will do everything possible to ensure the sustenance of peace and tranquility in the community.

A resident of the community who also spoke to VOA News, revealed that the police station was long overdue, as the community had been ravaged by gruesome killings of indigenes, culpable fear and tension were the order of the day in the community, he hopes that the project will give birth to adequate security of lives and properties in Ikogbo community.

Among those that witnessed the event included; the Dr. Prophetess Ngozi Okafor, General Overseer of The Truth Visionary Mission INC and Vice Chancellor, proposed Vision University, Ikogbo, heads of clubs and societies in Ejila Awori and surrounding, and many others.
